All images available on this website are protected by copyright and are licensed, not sold.
When you license an image from Polar Media, you are granted a limited right to use the image according to the terms of the selected license. Ownership and copyright of all images remain with Polar Media.
Polar Media provides clear and simple licensing for professional use of Greenland photography. The licenses are designed for publishers, media organizations, businesses, and creative professionals who require authentic imagery from Greenland and the Arctic.
Polar Media offers two types of licenses: Editorial License and Commercial License.
In simple terms, editorial licenses are used for journalism, education, and factual reporting, while commercial licenses are required when images are used to promote or market a product, service, brand, or organization.
It is the customer’s responsibility to select the correct license for the intended use. If you are unsure which license applies to your project, please contact Polar Media before purchasing and we will be happy to assist.

Editorial License
An Editorial License allows the use of images for non-commercial, informational, and journalistic purposes. This license is intended for factual storytelling where the image illustrates a real event, subject, or situation.
Editorial images may be used by publishers, journalists, researchers, and educators where the purpose is to inform or document rather than promote.
Editorial images must always be credited in accordance with the Attribution requirement described below.
Permitted uses
- Newspapers, magazines, and online news publications
- Editorial articles, blog posts, and documentaries
- Educational and academic content
- Informational websites and non-commercial media
- Social media accounts operated by publishers or news organizations when the use is clearly informational and non-promotional
Restrictions
Images licensed under an Editorial License may not be used for commercial or promotional purposes.
Specifically:
- Images may not be used for advertising or promotional campaigns
- Images may not be used to sell, promote, or endorse products or services
- Images may not be used in branding, logos, or marketing materials
- Images may not be altered in a way that changes the factual or editorial context
Editorial use must always be truthful and accurate. Any misleading, defamatory, or unlawful use is strictly prohibited.
Attribution Requirement (Editorial License)
Editorial use requires visible credit to Polar Media.
Where possible, the credit should also include a link to Polar Media

Commercial License
A Commercial License allows the use of images for promotional, marketing, and business-related purposes. This license is suitable for brands, agencies, organizations, and commercial projects.
Commercial licensing allows the use of images in marketing materials, advertising, and other promotional contexts where the image supports a product, service, brand, or organization.
Permitted uses
- Websites, landing pages, and online marketing materials
- Advertising campaigns and digital promotions
- Social media campaigns and branded content
- Company presentations and corporate communication
- Brochures, reports, and promotional publications
Restrictions
Images licensed under a Commercial License may not be resold or redistributed.
Specifically:
- Images may not be resold, sublicensed, or redistributed
- Images may not be used as part of a logo, trademark, or brand identity
- Images may not be made available for download by third parties
A Commercial License does not transfer copyright ownership and does not grant exclusive rights unless explicitly agreed in writing.
General License Terms
All licenses provided by Polar Media are non-exclusive and non-transferable.
Images may only be used within the scope of the purchased license and may not be shared with third parties outside the licensed project.
Images may not be used in unlawful, misleading, defamatory, or offensive contexts.
Unauthorized use may result in legal action under applicable copyright law.
Polar Media reserves the right to revoke a license in the event of a material breach of these terms. Upon termination, all use of the image must cease immediately.
Extended or Custom Licensing
If your intended use is not clearly covered by the licenses described above, or if you require extended rights, exclusivity, or special permissions, please contact Polar Media before using the image.
We are happy to discuss custom licensing options that fit your specific project or publication.
Model and Property Releases
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, images are provided without model releases or property releases.
The customer is solely responsible for determining whether additional permissions or consent are required for their intended use, particularly in commercial, promotional, or sensitive contexts.
Polar Media makes no warranties regarding the presence or absence of model or property releases.
AI and Machine Learning
Images from Polar Media may not be used for training artificial intelligence systems, machine learning models, dataset generation, or similar technologies without explicit written permission.
